Esther Nox is an impartial journalist working for Vertex News, the largest multinational media and news channel in the world. She is a stubborn and calculating workaholic, conducting the most complex and intricate journalistic investigations. She, like a ghost, lives in the shadows of the neon city and no one notices her, but Esther notices everything and everyone.
Esther grew up in the dark streets of the Lower City, but with her tenacity and strong-willed character she was able to fight her way up the social ladder, and now she works in one of the most prestigious companies in the world. Initially, working as a journalist was just a good way for her to make money and a ticket to the Upper City, but now she is attracted only by the excitement of intriguing investigations and the endless pursuit of the truth.
During her investigations, Esther is not afraid to get her hands dirty and use the most dangerous tricks. She always gets to the bottom of the truth, even if it costs her too much. And in most cases, the “truth” she revealed is not the “truth” that her news channel then publishes. The edited and censored information that reaches people very often turns out to be the exact opposite of what she witnessed.
Esther is a lone wolf. She feels that she has no place in this metropolis. In the Lower City, she has long become a stranger and nothing holds her there, but in the Upper City, she will never be recognized as one of their own. Therefore, she is in a constant state of searching for herself. This can be seen in the way she spends time in city bars with a lonely cocktail, and how deep she drowns in the ocean of cyberspace.
